recent paintings

gold, black and white series

My most recent series and all painted in 2025. the series started out with just a desire to simplify and paint overlapping shades of black and white and to use up some old gold gesso that I had until something graphically interesting emerged: that all happened naturally. I started adding other colors to some of the work and ended up buying more gold gesso and modifying it with mica and other paints.

These are all paintings from the last 5 years outside of the series groupings. Several of them were shown in the Gospel Flat Showspace in Bolinas California run by some of my favorite people on earth.

falling chains series

This is a series of paintings from 2020 based on a design that I developed through a series of drawings. The basic design is no big deal, falling alternating chain links, but it was a really good structure to try several different paintings, some held together by specific little painting rules that allowed lots of variation, but produced and ordered tone.
