dying poppies series

A series of paintings 2006-2007 based on a photograph of a wilted poppy plant in my garden. I turned the photo to greyscale, enlarged it, and then drew and drew a grid on top to help in locating the rhythmic brushstrokes that started each painting. The six different styles were ideas that I wanted to explore.

dying ivy vines series

Improvisations on a photograph I took of dead ivy vines on a tree trunk in a local park. a great natural subject that caught my eye and was a prime for my early abstract experiments.

other paintings

A few of these paintings date back to the 1990’s, but all those portraits, still lives and landscapes and work until about 2010 were recorded on film. Not sure if they will ever make their way to this website. What is always the most important is the work I’m doing today. Probably most artists would say that if they thought for a few seconds, but there is often still a level of pride invested in many older works, many were important achievements in the long road of finding what I was most interested on working on. I was also doing many painted charcoals during this time, but they are to be found in the painted charcoals gallery.
