Islamic series
In the summer of 2018 I wanted to have more organization before I started painting on a piece of paper. I wanted to try some Islamic designs so I bought a couple of books on how to get started. Eric Broug has some wonderful books that fit the bill. After laying out a design on paper I would start improvising with color. On a few pieces I worked on a worn out feeling, others cheerful, others moody. It was a fruitful project. I even emailed my first couple to Eric and received a nice response.
sierra series
I saw a geometric design by Sophie Tauber Arp and used it as a take-off point for this series. I varied the relationship of the elements of her design to get different looks and started playing with paint. Quite a jagged feel to all of these, kind of like a sawblade or a mountain chain.
